This guide shows you how to add tax rates such as VAT to your products and services.

1. How to add tax to your products

If you’d like to add tax to products in the Product Manager section please follow the steps below:

    1. Click on Profile.
    2. Click on Product Manager.
    3. Click on the Down arrow of the Category that the Product you’d like to add tax to is in.
    4. Next to the Price field click on the No Tax button.
    5. Enter your UTR Number (Your unique taxpayer reference number provided by HMRC) so that this can be displayed to customers in relevant places such as on receipts and then click Update. This number will now be saved so you don’t have to enter it for every product that you add tax to.
    6. Click on the Tax Rate + button.
    7. Leave ‘VAT’ under Name.
    8. Enter the VAT % that you pay on the product under Rate.
    9. Select the Mode by clicking on the Down Arrow and choosing Inclusive or Exclusive.
    10. Click Create.
    11. Then click Update on the top right hand side to save your changes.

If you want to add tax to a product within a service please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Profile.
  2. Click on Services.
  3. Click on the service that the product is in such as Click & Collect for example.
  4. Click on the Products tab.
  5. Click on the Down arrow of the Category that the Product you’d like to add tax to is in.
  6. Click on the Product.
  7. Next to the Price field click on the No Tax button.
  8. Enter your UTR Number (Your unique taxpayer reference number provided by HMRC) so that this can be displayed to customers in relevant places such as on receipts and then click Update. This number will now be saved so you don’t have to enter it for every product that you add tax to.
  9. Click on the Tax Rate + button.
  10. Leave ‘VAT’ under Name.
  11. Enter the VAT % that you pay on the product under Rate.
  12. Select the Mode by clicking on the Down Arrow and choosing Inclusive or Exclusive.
  13. Click Create.
  14. Then click Update on the top right hand side to save your changes.

Please note that any product options will have same tax applied as the product they’re on.

2. How to add tax to a service price

    1. Click on Profile.
    2. Click on Services.
    3. Click on the relevant service that has a service price, for example Delivery.
    4. Click Unpublish on the top right.
    5. On the Details tab scroll down and click on the No Tax button next to Service Price.
    6. If you haven’t already done so enter your UTR Number (Your unique taxpayer reference number provided by HMRC) so that this can be displayed to customers in relevant places such as on receipts and then click Update. This number will now be saved so you don’t have to enter it for every service price that you add tax to.
    7. Click on the Tax Rate + button.
    8. Leave ‘VAT’ under Name.
    9. Enter the VAT % that you pay on this service price under Rate.
    10. Select the Mode by clicking on the Down Arrow and choosing Inclusive or Exclusive.
    11. Click Create.
    12. Then click Publish on the top right hand side.

3. How to add tax to an input

    1. Click on Profile.
    2. Click on Services.
    3. Click on the service that includes the input you’d like to add the tax to such as Pay Invoice for example.
    4. Click the Unpublish button on the top right.
    5. Click on the Inputs tab at the top of the page.
    6. If you are replacing an existing input click the Red Dustbin icon next to it and then click Yes to delete it.
    7. Click Input +.
    8. Please note, tax can only be added to the following inputs: Address, Payment & Delivery Address.
    9. If you have added tax to the Service Price on this service then the input will automatically show the same rate but this can be amended to either have no tax by clicking on the No Tax button or you can click on the VAT % button to change the rate. 
    10. If your service has no price or there is not tax added to it and you want it added to the input price click on the No Tax button.
    11. Enter your UTR Number (Your unique taxpayer reference number provided by HMRC) if you haven’t already done so and then click Update.
    12. Once you have done this you can click on the Tax Rate + button.
    13. Leave ‘VAT’ under Name.
    14. Enter the VAT % that you pay under Rate.
    15. Select the Mode by clicking on the Down Arrow and choosing Inclusive or Exclusive.
    16. Then click Create.
    17. Click Save.
    18. Click Update on the top right hand side.
    19. Then Publish to make your service live.
