How to setup your
This guide has everything you need to set up your Star Micronics printer with your iOS or Android device.

Prerequisites

Before you can begin the set up, please check that the following is satisfied:

    1. You have a printer from our list of compatible printers. If you do not already have one you can order one by going to the Shop on your Dashboard.
    2. Please note that TSP143III printers are part of the TSP100III series and follow the same instructions.
    3. You have a roll of thermal receipt paper that is the correct size for the printer according to its manual. You can order these by going to the Shop on your Dashboard.
    4. You have an iOS or Android device with compatible with the tudoo vendor app.
    5. You have the necessary hardware to connect the device to the printer (Wifi router, USB cable, etc).
    6. For Wifi printers the Wifi must be from a Wifi router with WPS. Most Wifi setups have this but phone tethering and USB dongle Wifi may not.
    7. You have the instruction manual that came with the printer. If you do not have this, use the online manual: TSP100IIIU; TSP100IIIW; TSP100IIIBI; TSP650II

1. Set up the printer

First off, you need to make sure the printer is functioning independently of a device. Follow the instruction manual to set up the printer, ensuring the following:

    1. The printer has power; check the lights on the front are on.
    2. The error light is OFF; check the manual to diagnose if this light is on.
    3. The paper is inserted correctly; the feed button should push paper through.
    4. For Wifi printers; the printer is connected to Wifi. The Wifi light should be solid and not flashing. To remedy, hold the PAIR button on the back of the printer until the light flashes, then press the WPS button on the Wifi router. Once connected the light will go solid and the Wifi information will be printed out.

2. Connect the device to the printer

Next, ensure the device is connected to the printer via the following steps:

    1. For a USB printers, ensure the cable(s) you are using are reliable. If you do not have the exact cable required for the designated ports on the device and the printer you may need to source the relevant cables and adapters. 
    2. To connect a USB printer with an iOS device you will need to connect the USB type A port on the printer to the connection port on the iOS device via a USB cable. The official Apple cable that came with your device is recommended, such as this one. Unofficial iOS cables may not work.
    3. To connect a USB printer with an Android device you will need to connect the USB type B port on the printer to the USB port on the Android device via a USB cable.
    4. To connect a Wifi printer, ensure the printer and the device are on the same Wifi network.
    5. To connect a bluetooth printer, open the Settings app on your device and navigate to the Bluetooth settings. Ensure bluetooth is switched on. Hold down the PAIR button on the back of the device for 5 seconds, until the rear green light flashes. You will have 60 seconds to connect the device. “Star Micronics” will appear in the list of devices. Select it and after a few seconds it should show as connected/paired. Once connected the rear light on the printer will turn blue.

3. Perform a test print using the Star TSP100III Utility app

Before using the app with tudoo, ensure the printer and device function correctly with Star Micronics’ own software. We have outlined the basics below, but please consult the printer’s instruction manual for full details.

    1. Please note this section is not applicable for TSP650II printers.
    2. Download the TSP100III Utility app: iOS download link; Android download link.
    3. For USB printers it is recommended you restart your device at this point.
    4. Open the TSP100III Utility app on the device.
    5. Select the “Installation” button on the bottom menu bar.
    6. Select the blue printer icon under “Selected Device”.
    7. The app will load, followed by a screen listing the available printers. If your printer does not show up consult section 3. Connect the device to the printer.
    8. Select your printer from the list and select “Apply” in the bottom right. This will take you back to the previous menu. If not, select the back arrow in the top right.
    9. Under “Contents” select “Print Test”. The app will load and should display “Success” and the printer will print out a test receipt.

4. Connect the tudoo vendor app

Finally we can configure the printer to function

    1. Download the tudoo vendor app.
    2. For USB printers it is recommended you restart your device at this point.
    3. Open the tudoo vendor app on the device.
    4. Log in with you account.
    5. Select “Orders” on the menu.
    6. Select the cog icon in the top right.
    7. Select “Pinter Config”.
    8. The app will load and show a list of the connected printers. If the printer does not show up select “Refresh” in the top right.
    9. Select “Print Test” on your printer and then “Test” on the prompt. This will print a test ticket from the printer and will show “Success” on the app.
If you are unsuccessful with any of the above please consult section 3. Connect the device to the printer and repeat section 4. Perform a test print using the Star TSP100III Utility app to ensure the device and printer are functioning correctly. If you can complete those sections successfully but not this section please contact us.

5. Configure the printer with your order process

Finally we can configure the printer to print when required during your order process.
